Roman Silver Skyphos, 1st Century BC/AD
An early Roman silver skyphos with winged Erotes in Dionysiac revelry with torches, wine vessels and dogs. With traces of original gilding.
The Erotes are a collective of winged gods associated with love and sex in Greek mythology. They are part of Aphrodite’s retinue. Erotes is the plural of Eros, who as a singular deity has a more complex mythology.
